Open letter to Michael Moore:
Dear Mr. Moore,
I don’t think the word “coward” means what you think it means. Let me provide you Webster’s definition:
Coward – someone who is too afraid to do what is right or expected : someone who is not at all brave or courageous
And just in case you don’t understand “brave” or “courageous”, here you go:
Brave – Feeling or showing no fear; not afraid
Courage – the ability to do something that you know is difficult or dangerous
You see, Mr. Moore, Snipers are important members of our military. They volunteer to defend our country and the Constitution that is the bedrock of its foundation. They willingly risk their lives to defend the lives and rights of people like you. They sacrifice time with loved ones, missing holidays, important life milestones, sometimes even the birth of their child, to defend our country. That does not make them cowardly; that makes them brave and courageous.
You sit in one of your nine mansions, flying in your personal jet, eating gourmet meals and sleeping in a comfortable bed, safe and secure in your freedoms. Meanwhile men of the caliber of Chris Kyle are in a hostile country, getting little sleep, sometimes eating only beef jerky and drinking water from a canteen, tirelessly waiting in rugged terrain to get the perfect shot to take out a key enemy of America. What they do is not only physically demanding; it is emotionally and spiritually wearing as well. They know their job is to kill someone who will stop at nothing to destroy us. They don’t take that lightly. Their job is to minimize collateral damage. They are killing key persons, not whole villages. We are at war with an unpredictable, disorganized enemy. Our soldiers have sworn to serve and protect our country. Their job allows someone like you to continue your excessive and overindulgent lifestyle. And they volunteer to do it. That takes a special breed of person, brave and courageous; certainly not a coward.
The cowards in this war are Al Qaida, who send young women into supermarkets, strapped with bombs under their burkas, and detonates those bombs from a mile away.
The cowards are Boko Haram who storm schools and kidnap young girls and sell them into sexual slavery or slaughter them and burn their bodies.
The cowards are these hostile factions who follow a prophet who was a child molester and liar and praise him as though he were a savior.
So perhaps, you should avail yourself to a better understanding of the word “coward”, Mr. Moore and watch what you say. Because men like Chris Kyle guarantee you the right to freedom of speech. But that doesn’t alleviate you of the responsibility that freedom of speech requires.
